PS Plus Pre-Paid Cards Do Not Work, Subs Can’t Be Purchased on PS Store

Update # 3: Customer support for Shop To, one of the few retailers to cease selling digital PS Plus subscription codes, made the following statement in response to a customer query:

“It appears that with the new integration of PS Plus Premium, Sony have temporarily disabled the stacking of PS Plus subscriptions. This is due to players trying to exploit the carrying over of subscriptions to this service. What this means is, any codes which you try to redeem while you already have an ongoing subscription, will not be redeemable until either Mid-June, or until your current subscription ends.

“Please do not worry though, all codes are valid and redeemable for up to 12 months from generating it.

“If you have any other questions or queries, please do raise another ticket so we may assist.”


Update: # 2: As has been mentioned all over the Internet, it’s not just pre-paid PS Plus cards that have stopped working. Trying to purchase a PS Plus subscription on the PS Store, when you already have an active membership, prompts the following error: “Can’t purchase. Can’t add to cart. You’ve already purchased this item. ” This error is consistent across both the browser-based PS Store and on the PS5 itself.

Ordinarily, you’d be able to purchase additional PS Plus time even if you have an active membership, and this will be stacked on top of your existing subscription.

Based on what we know so far, it’s increasingly looking like this is a deliberate attempt to block subscription stacking ahead of the new PS Plus launch. However, as of the time of publication, we’m still awaiting comment from Sony.


Update # 1: As pointed out by reader Fuzzymonkeyfunkand corroborated by Push SquareSony’s support department appears to be confirming that the company has deactivated the ability to redeem pre-paid PS Plus cards to prevent subscription stacking. This is, presumably, because PS Plus and PS Now subscribers will be upgraded to PS Plus Premium for the duration of their longest membership.

A support email explains: “I have checked the voucher and your account and can conclude that as of now there is a temporarily deactivated function for PS Plus / PS Now subscriptions which does not allow for stacking of either membership on already active memberships.

“This is only temporary and as soon as we have more information about we will let our players know, for more information regarding news for the new launch of our service please check out our blog.”

As of the time of writing, it’s still possible to purchase pre-paid PS Plus cards from a variety of major retailers, including Amazon. However, Shop To does appear to have pulled the product from its storefront.

Original Article: Sony support is being absolutely inundated with PlayStation 5 and PS4 owners who can not redeem PS Plus promo codes. The issue – which does appear to be more prevalent in Europe right now but is seemingly affecting consumers worldwide – blocks legitimately purchased subscriptions from being redeemed.

The error code states: “The pre-paid card could not be redeemed. Please try again later. ” Wallet top-ups are working as intended, and we’ve seen some statements from Sony support workers that suggest pre-paid PS Plus codes have been temporarily disabled. This all arouses suspicion with regards to the impending transition to PS Plus Premiumwhere we reported overnight that those with active PS Now and PS Plus subscriptions will be upgraded to PS Plus Premium for the duration of their longest subscription.

In theory, there’s no reason why a PS Now and PS Plus subscriber could not start stacking PS Plus today in order to guarantee a longer PS Plus Premium membership at a cut-down price. Of course, if pre-paid PS Plus codes are currently being blocked, then that’d imply that Sony is trying to close the loophole.

We do not know that for certain right now, this could be a technical issue, but we’ll contact the company and try and get some clarification.
